Classification: Full-time – Exempt

Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm; flexibility and additional hours as needed

Salary: $85,000 +/- annualized

Shore Transit, a division of the Tri-County Council for the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland (TCC), is the public transit agency for the Maryland lower eastern shore counties of Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester. Shore Transit offers public transportation via fixed route and origin-to-destination services. Shore Transit staff meet regularly with the Shore Transit Advisory Board to discuss issues relating to efficient and effective transit operation. The Advisory Board is composed of representatives from public agencies, private businesses, education and consumer advocates.

The mission of Shore Transit is to provide safe, reliable, friendly, and efficient community transportation services to the residents and businesses of Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties in Maryland, on clean, well-maintained vehicles, operated by trained, licensed, professionals, with a focus on excellent customer service.

Director of Shore Transit Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the TCC Executive Director.
  • Plans, implements, directs and oversees all functions and resources of the department to achieve strategic objectives in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Develops the Shore Transit budget, maximizing the use of all funding sources within grant limitations, while controlling costs and managing cash flow; actively seeks additional funding sources.
  • Develops and implements division policies, procedures and practices to support effective operations, employee productivity and morale within the division.
  • Oversees the reporting process to ensure timely and accurate reports to a variety of audiences, both within and outside of the organization.
  • Analyzes the needs of the community, identifies and tracks trends, reviews statistics and opportunities and communicates information appropriately.
  • Develops strategic partnerships and contacts with community representatives, external agencies, funding sources and other organizations and entities to support division’s operation.
  • Represents Shore Transit at meetings, conferences, planning sessions, etc. both within and outside the organization.
  • Ensures operations conform to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and expertise through such means as attending seminars, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
  • Works with Administrative Services to implement and follow all institutional policies including the employee handbook and fiscal policies such as procurement. 
  • Works closely with the Shore Transit Advisory Board, guiding and coaching members to ensure understanding of operational issues and create an effective partnership.
  • Provides brief quarterly updates to the Tri-County Council Board and Executive Committee regarding ridership, staff levels, status of capital and operating funds.  

Requirements:

Prior working knowledge and experience with public transit agency

Experience with federal grants administration

Proficiency in writing, reporting and the ability to articulate in a succinct manner

Public speaking (meetings, briefings and reporting to a board of directors)

Strong level of business acumen

Bachelor degree in related field, or higher, or a combination of experience and education

Attention to detail

Able to supervise a team and effectively delegate duties and responsibilities to provide proven results

Competent working with MS Office Suite
